LOW
HUM
ABOUT:
Low Hum, the kaleidoscopic creation of artist Collin Desha, lives in a Lo-fi meets Hi-fi futurism: blending heavy fuzzed-out riffs, oceanic tranquility, and pop sensibilities, juxtaposed alongside melodious synths and honeyed, harmonious vocals.
Terra Incognita, the latest full length album due Spring 2024 via Last Gang Records — explores uncharted sonic territories in a journey through psychedelic soundscapes with grounding lyrical concepts that call to our courageous self; to face the unknown.
This latest offering is a mesmerizing exploration into the sounds of the yin and yang as we live it. Inspired lyrically by Steinbeckian themes, Desha touches on what it means to be human: the nature of reality, man’s propensity for greed, and the power of love in a forever uncertain world.
“I left Hawaii when I was 18 and have very much been carving out my own path ever since. This album is very much a concept album about keeping my head above water, believing in my sound and paying homage to the fellow travelers who are moving through Terra Incognita.”
The consummate Low Hum bass synth tone and ripping riffs on opening track “Meet Me In The Sky” are instant welcome-to-the-show earworms. "Only If You Say So" winds through multiple hairpin curves with its dark, driving arpeggiator ending blissfully in an ethereal wall of sound, while the writhing guitar and haunting vocals on “Sultry” keep you sleeping with one eye open. Album closer, "Your Love" is a true testament to Desha's multifaceted nature and depth of artistry in its sensitive and heart-baring simplicity.
Desha who has carved out his own niche in the indie rock world, continues to shape Low Hum’s distinct sound and identity on Terra Incognita and since the release of Room to Breathe, his 2019 debut, with follow up Nonfiction in 2021, Low Hum has garnered praise from tastemakers like NPR, KCRW, Clash and Relix Magazines, with Flood Magazine describing the record as “floating in similar sonic atmospheres as Tame Impala and High Fidelity legends, Beta Band.” Songs like “Comatose” “Nebraska” and “I Don’t Know Me Like You Do” have garnered tens of millions of streams on Youtube, Spotify and Apple Music, and Low Hum has played to thousands on tours spanning Europe, Canada, and the US.
